Post-Doctoral Fellows at IIT Jodhpur

  1. The Post-doctoral fellows can be financially supported from the Institute fund as well as from sponsored projects. As per approval of Finance Committee in its 4th Meeting held on 08 February 2013, Institute will support maximum of 12 PDF’s. Given the modified index, it is proposed to make provision of following benefits:

Fellowship Amount

Between Rs. 55,000-65,000/- consolidated

(depending upon  experience and qualification)

Accommodation

Suitable Hostel/Campus accommodation as per norms will be provided, if available OR HRA (as per rules)

Contingency Grant

A contingency grant of Rs. 50,000/- per annum will be provided to the Post-Doctoral Fellow for research purposes. Unspent amount can be carried over to the next financial year

Permission for Conference

Either National or International Conference can be permitted provided funds available in the contingency grant of the concerned doctoral fellow.

TA Claim for attending interview

Train fare by II AC from place of residence to Jodhpur (by shortest route).

Leave

With fellowship not exceeding 30 days (at 2½ days per month)in a year for each completed year of the fellowship. The leave can be availed on a prorata basis for the duration.

The Post-Doc Program of the Institute will be coordinated by Dean (R&D).

  1. Minimum Qualification and Experience:
  1. Applicant must be Indian Nationals or Foreign Nationals including “Persons of Indian Origin” (PIO) or Overseas Citizens of India (OCI).
  1. Applicant must hold Ph.D. with first class or equivalent grade in preceding degree in respective discipline, wih a consistently good academic record & demonstrative evidence of research output (Papers and/or Patents)
  2. D degree holders are eligible to apply within five years after completion of Ph.D. Applicant must not exceed 32 years for male and 35 years for female candidates (to be relaxed by 5 years in case of persons with physical disability, SC and ST and 3 years in case of OBC-NCL)
  3. D. scholars after submission of thesis are also eligible to apply for Institute PDF posts. However, they have to submit the provisional/degree certificate within 6 months from the date of appointment as Institute PDF. If not submitted within the time limit, the appointment will stands cancelled or a decision will be taken in consultation with the thesis processing authority.
  4. IIT Jodhpur Ph.D. scholars will not be eligible to apply for Institute PDF.
  5. Post-Doc’s joining IIT Jodhpur will not be eligible to apply for Faculty Positions of IIT Jodhpur.
  1. Application Processing & Interview
  • Institute will advertise for post-doc’s indicating areas of specific interest on the Institute website along with application format and other relevant details.
  • Candidates will apply in specified format with a SOP related to the advertised area.
  • Shortlisting will be done by relevant academic unit (Department or IDRP’s based upon SoP and academic credentials of the candidate.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by the following Institute Selection Committee:

  • Selection process will involve a presentation or the proposed work and interview.
  1. PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT

The performance of the Post-Doctoral Fellow will be assessed by the Performance Assessment Committee (PAC) with the following composition:

An expert in the area (could be external) nominated by the Dean (R&D) in consultation with the Director.

The PAC will meet every year to assess the performance of the Post-Doctoral Fellow.

PROGRESS REPORT

 

The candidate should present a progress report to PAC detailing the research work carried out and research findings supported by reprints/preprints/manuscripts of the papers published/accepted for publication or communicated/ research reports for this purpose.

  1. DURATION AND JOINING

 

  • Number of Positions 12 (as already approved by the Finance Committee) + supported by external funding without any restriction.

The duration of the fellowship will be initially for a period of 2 years, extendable for a further period of one more year based on the progress of the PDF and the recommendation of the Department.

While joining as Institute PDF, the PDF has to give joining report to Office of Academics thro’ Mentor and Head of the Department.

  1. TERMINATION

If the Post-Doctoral Fellow wishes to leave the programme before the end of the tenure, he/she can do so with prior approval of the PAC giving one month’s notice. The fellowship may be terminated by the Institute if the performance /conduct of the fellow is unsatisfactory after giving one month’s notice to the Post-Doctoral Fellow.
